Inner Mongolia Normal University, founded in 1952, was one of the first institutions of higher education established in China’s border ethnic regions after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. It is a key university in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The university is among the first 200 institutions approved by the Ministry of Education of China to admit international students. It is a designated institution for training master’s students in International Chinese Education, and authorized to enroll students under the Chinese Government Scholarship, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Government Scholarship, and the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship programs.
The university has extensive experience in educating international students and offers a well-established talent cultivation system at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. It offers 95 undergraduate programs across 10 major disciplines, with 9 first-level doctoral degree programs, 2 professional doctoral degree authorization points, 3 post-doctoral research stations, 26 first-level master’s degree programs, and 18 types of professional master’s degree programs.
I. Background of the Scholarship
To meet the growing global demand for Chinese language education professionals, promote the development of Chinese language education worldwide, and support the cultivation of international Chinese language teaching talent, Inner Mongolia Normal University, in collaboration with the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education, has launched the “Inner Mongolia Normal University International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship” program (non-degree) in 2025.
The program offers two study tracks: Chinese Language Studies and Chinese Language + Film and Television Culture Studies, with a focus on improving the Chinese language ability and proficiency of international students and training qualified overseas Chinese language teachers. As one of the host institutions designated by the Ministry of Education for International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship students, Inner Mongolia Normal University warmly welcomes outstanding students and in-service Chinese language teachers who aspire to engage in international Chinese education to study Chinese at our university.
II. Eligibility Requirements
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and in-service Chinese language teachers;
2. Be friendly to China, with no criminal record, and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules of the university;
3. Be physically and mentally healthy, with good academic and moral performance;
4. Be interested in engaging in Chinese language education, teaching, or related work;
5. Be between the ages of 16 and 35 as of September 1, 2025. The age limit for in-service Chinese language teachers is extended to 45;
6. Applicants who have not received the same type of scholarship within the past three years.
III. Scholarship Categories and Application Requirements
1. Chinese Language Studies Track
o Enrollment quota: 30 students.
o Start date: September 2025.
o Duration: One academic year; scholarship coverage: 11 months.
o Language of instruction: Chinese.
o Applicants are required to have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK Level 3. Those who also submit valid HSKK scores will be given priority in admission.
2. Chinese Language + Film and Television Culture Studies Track
o Enrollment quota: 30 students.
o Start date: September 2025 or March 2026.
o Duration: One semester; scholarship coverage: 5 months.
o Language of instruction: Chinese.
o Applicants must have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK Level 3, and those who also provide HSKK scores will be given priority.
IV. Scholarship Coverage
1. The scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, living allowance, and comprehensive medical insurance.
2. Tuition is managed by the university and used for student training and administration, cultural activities, HSK exams, etc.
3. The university provides free on-campus accommodation. If students choose to live off-campus upon approval, a monthly housing allowance of RMB 700 will be granted.
4. Living allowance: RMB 2,500/month for one-semester and one-academic-year students, distributed monthly by the university.
5. Comprehensive medical insurance will be purchased by the university in accordance with the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education of China for international students. The insurance fee is RMB 800 per person for one academic year, and RMB 400 per person for one semester.
V. Application Materials
1. Scanned copy of passport photo page;
2. Scanned copy of HSK and HSKK test results (valid for 2 years);
3. Recommendation letter from the head of the recommending institution;
4. Certificate of highest education (or expected graduation) and academic transcripts;
5. In-service Chinese language teachers need to submit a certificate of employment and a recommendation letter from their employer;
6. Applicants under 18 must provide a notarized letter of guardianship signed by their guardian in China;
7. Physical Examination Form for Foreigners (within 6 months);
8. Certificate of No Criminal Record (issued within the past 3 months);
9. Applicants with previous study experience in China must provide a performance certificate issued by the host institution (with official stamp).
VI. Application Deadline
The application deadline is May 15, 2025 (Beijing Time).
VII. Application Procedure
1. Applicants must submit all required materials online via the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website (cis.chinese.cn) before May 15. Late applications will not be accepted;
2. After submission, applicants can log in to the website to track the status of their application, review comments, and view scholarship results;
3. Scholarship recipients should confirm their acceptance and prepare for study in China;
4. Final admission results will be sent to recipients via email. Students must arrive and register at the university within the specified time.
VIII. Additional Notes
1. In-service Chinese language teachers applying for the scholarship are prioritized if they provide employment proof and a recommendation letter from their institution;
2. Winners of the "International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Certificate" in Chinese Bridge competitions can apply directly through the website using their certificate;
3. Scholarship eligibility will be canceled if a student fails the pre-admission health check, withdraws early, fails to register on time without permission, or takes leave during the study period;
4. All application materials must be authentic and valid. Any falsification will result in disqualification.
